In the Belarusian epic, bogs have always occupied one of the key places in the system of world order. Shakiness and instability represent the basis of their nature. Swamp is a dualism of impossibility and possibility, the holy and the devilishly unknowable. Swamp
is always about "between": between water and earth, life and death, birth and resurrection.
Belarusians are people who grew up on the swamps and through the swamps.
Co-existence with the swamp, impossibility to subdue it and cognize it, and the desire to understand and accept it are an integral part of the national and ethnic identity of our people.... The swamp is also reflected in the character of people.
